Russell spent more than 20 years in commercial broadcating before joining TCU as manager of the student radio station. He has spent the last ten years in Dallas and prior to that he was News Director for KTSA radio in San Antonio. Russell served as radio president of the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters; he has worked for USA Radio Network, Dallas News Bureau Chief for Metro Networks, and locally he's worked for 103.3 ESPN, WBAP, KRLD, and KOAI-The Oasis. He also served as studio host for the ESPN-Dallas Mavericks radio network and the TCU-ESPN Regional Sports Network and has freelanced for ESPN Radio in Bristol, CT.

Russell is a Texas native and has also worked as a disc jockey, worked in radio production, copywriting and marketing. His wife, Desiree, is a senior account exectuvie with the Dallas Mavericks and the couple has twin daughters, Mia and Victoria.
