Karen M. Thomas has worked as a feature writer for 13 years at the Dallas Morning News, specializing in family issues, narrative writing and column and essay writing. Before joining the Texas newspaper, Ms. Thomas was Southwest correspondent for the Chicago Tribune and a general assignments reporter at the Springfield Daily News. Ms. Thomas is a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and in 2005 completed a year-long Kaiser Family Foundation Media Fellowship in Health. She has won several writing awards, including a Media Award for Excellence by the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism's "Let's Do it Better!" Award.
